The idea for this book crystallised in the author's mind whilst negotiating the purchase of a property in France when that old chestnut of a question arose in her mind: |I wonder what the neighbours will be like?| With some license, the author has attempted to create for the reader a picture of the leisurely lifestyle enjoyed by those lucky enough to live in the countryside south of the river Loire. Although most of the people, places and deeds described in the book are fictitious, the characters written about continue to live on vividly in the author's mind. When I Get to France is the first of a series of books about people traveling from the United Kingdom to continental Europe and the reasons for those journeys and the problems and incidents along the way.
